The Glen runs quarterly Volunteer Info Days, which includes a tour of The Glen and information about volunteering at The Glen entails. These days clearly set out what to expect while volunteering here (the good, and the bad!). Our next Volunteer Info Day will be held on Thursday 19th of May from 10am to 12pm. Please register your interest by sending an email to angie@theglencentre.org.au.

In the meantime, see below for some info about volunteering roles:

Work program:

The Glen is always seeking volunteers to support our daily work program which runs Monday to Wednesday from 10am to 12pm. The work program creates an opportunity for clients who don’t have much experience to develop a positive attitude towards work and learn how to communicate in a team environment. The Glen hopes the boys can carry that attitude and work ethic with them when it’s time to step back into society. We are seeking volunteers to support the work program who have the following skills:

  • Horticulture, landscaping and gardening
  • Computer and administration
  • Woodwork
  • Construction and handyman skills
  • Teaching
  • Cleaning

We are currently seeking volunteers to cook and oversee The Glen’s clients as they prepare meals. This involves preparing a simple meal for 40 people while supervising and teaching some basic cooking skills to clients.

From time to time, we require volunteers to transport clients to appointments and meetings.

Office skills to support in administration, IT and filing:

We are seeking volunteers with office skills to support in administration, IT and filing. Anyone with website, graphic design or computing experience is encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements:

  • Administration and IT skills (Microsoft Outlook Email & Calendar) to fit in with the team
  • Patience and ability to teach clients
  • Great communication skills (oral and written)
  • Open-mindedness and ability to listen and learn
  • Positive and non-judgemental attitude
  • Ability to work independently, to plan, prepare and be organised

Corporate volunteering:

We have a successful history of working with the corporate and government sectors. We also work closely with global law and accounting firms – Allens Linklaters, Minter Ellison, Clayton Utz and KPMG. These firms provide invaluable expertise in their respected fields. We are very grateful for their advice on organisational issues and welcome any corporate partners to support us.

It’s not always about hard work and technical issues though. We are passionate about breaking down barriers and sharing real-life stories from our clients. It’s important to have some fun and we are always up for a game of touch footy with our corporate partners!

We have hosted secondees and volunteers from various organisations. You have all made a contribution to what The Glen is today and we are truly thankful for your time.
