Culture at The Glen
Healing Through Culture
At The Glen, we believe that connection to culture is an important part of healing. For many of the men and women who come through our programs, recovery is about reconnecting with themselves, their families, their communities and their cultural identity.
Our cultural program provides opportunities to strengthen cultural knowledge, build pride in identity, connect with Elders and community, and develop a deeper sense of belonging.
Culture is woven throughout life at The Glen and plays an important role in supporting social and emotional wellbeing.

Kinship Groups at The Glen
Building cultural understanding through connection, conversation and shared learning
Kinship Groups are an important part of cultural learning and cultural awareness at The Glen. Facilitated by our Cultural Lead, the sessions provide a culturally safe and interactive space for clients, staff and relevant stakeholders to strengthen their understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship and ways of connecting with family, community and Country.
Through guided discussion and practical activities, participants explore Aboriginal kinship systems and the important role relationships, family structures, cultural responsibilities and community connections play within Aboriginal communities.
Kinship Groups are designed to encourage conversation, curiosity and respectful learning. Participants have the opportunity to explore how kinship influences identity, relationships, responsibilities, communication and connection, while developing a greater understanding of how cultural knowledge can support culturally safe and respectful practice.
These sessions form part of The Glen’s broader commitment to cultural safety, cultural awareness and creating an environment where Aboriginal culture is respected, understood and embedded in the way we work.
Connection to Country
Connection to Country is a powerful part of healing.
Through cultural activities, outdoor experiences and time spent on Country, clients have opportunities to slow down, reflect, learn and strengthen their connection to the land, waterways and community around them.
These experiences support wellbeing while fostering respect, belonging and cultural pride.
Art & Creative Expression
Art is an important way people express themselves, tell stories and connect with culture.
Across our programs, clients have opportunities to participate in creative activities that encourage self-expression, learning and connection. These experiences often contribute to community projects, events, exhibitions and celebrations throughout the year.

Celebrating Community
Culture at The Glen extends beyond our programs and into the wider community.
Throughout the year we proudly participate in and host events that celebrate culture, connection and community, including:
- NAIDOC Week
- Reconciliation Week
- Community gatherings and family events
- Cultural workshops and sharing circles
- Community partnerships and collaborations
These events provide opportunities for people to come together, celebrate culture and strengthen connections.

Walking Together
At The Glen, culture is not an activity, it is part of who we are. By creating opportunities for cultural connection, learning and belonging, we support people to build strong foundations for healing, growth and a healthy future.
We are proud to walk alongside individuals, families, Elders and communities on this journey.
