The Glen Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre

Ngaimpe Aboriginal Corporation set up The Glen in 1994. Since that time, it has been an example of the Koori spirit, and indeed the human spirit. The Glen is the only male-specific Central Coast Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre and we are proud to provide opportunities for drug and alcohol rehabilitation for Indigenous and non-Indigenous men from all over NSW.

Our clients’ stories are evidence that dreams can come true and lives can be changed. Seeing the pain and suffering in the community at the hands of drug and alcohol addiction was the motivation for founding The Glen. To this day, we are committed to keeping men (Indigenous and non-indigenous) out of the criminal justice system and in treatment for the drug and alcohol addiction that led to their offending behaviours.

Who is welcome at The Glen?

The Glen welcomes any man over the age of 18 who could benefit from our program. We are proud to be an organisation that is helping to break down the barriers between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and working towards reconciliation.

We acknowledge that while Indigenous Australians are struggling with drug and alcohol abuse issues, it is a problem in all parts of modern Australian society. Addiction does not discriminate on the basis of colour or anything else.

Please refer to our intake criteria on our application page.

Our Motivation

  1. There has, and continues to be, an over-representation of Indigenous Australians in the prison system.
  2. There are hazardous levels of use of alcohol and other substances by Indigenous Australians.
  3. There are lower levels of participation in education and employment by Indigenous Australians compared to the general population.

What is The Glen?

The Glen was established on unused land at Chittaway in 1994. The site is located on 16 hectares and is now a modern rehabilitation facility with 35 residential rehabilitation beds (including 15 transition beds). The Transition Houses were established at the Chittaway site in 2010. These are Halfway Houses for men who have completed our basic rehabilitation program.

We are staffed by 13 full time, part time and casual staff along with a team of volunteers. We are a QIP accredited organisation and in 2015 set a national benchmark for health and community standards, exceeding 6 of the standards.

The office at the Glen (02 4388 6360) is open from 8am to 3pm Monday – Friday. If you ring outside of these times, the phone may be answered by clients of the program and not by staff members.
